University Aleksandër Moisiu Durrës (UAMD) is the fastest growing public university in Albania with approximately 20,000 students in the three study cycles and five main units.

UAMD is a student-centred institution which introduced new methods to foster and develop critical and analytical thinking as well as a sense of responsibility and social commitment.

UAMD is the first public higher-education institution that applied the Integrated Students Management System (ISMS) which provides the best technical infrastructure for reorganizing and sharing information with students and academic staff. Degrees are offered in two languages (Albanian and English) and the evaluation system is based on the European Credits Transfer System (ECTS) and the American Credit System (USCs). Its Students and Alumni Counselling office offers a variety of internships, employment, and training opportunities. This office is endowed with contacts with several companies operating in the labor market, primarily in the Information Communication Technology (ICT), accounting sectors, and private sector. The university has a recent yet successful history as an internationally oriented academic institution.

It has demonstrated that it can act quickly and flexibly toward the international dimension of higher education. UAMD has been the first university in Albania, leading two Erasmus+ CBHE projects in the quality of the leader and several ones in the quality of the partner. The projects implemented along the collaboration agreements with noted western universities, have paved the way toward research and innovation in UAMD, starting from modern infrastructure (labs and facilities) to student and staff exchange, joint programs of studies and dual degrees. UAMD is an accredited institution. UAMD has been granted 4 projects in the quality of coordinator for the Erasmus+ CBHE projects and 25 in quality of partner. UAMD has signed more than 100 Inter-institutional agreements for the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM) of staff and students. 459 academic and administrative staff and almost 220 students have benefited so far from the mobilities in EU country partner HEIs.

UAMD is endowed with three Research Centers

i)Center for Research, Development and Excellence;

  1. ii) Lifelong Learning Center;

iii) and Center for the development of ancient and mediaeval Albanian Heritage.

UAMD is a member of the following networks – UNIMED; AUF; CEEPUS; EUA; BUA and EUF. Extracurricular activities are in place for students through Student Clubs.

Since 2022, is part of the European University Alliance “Strategic Alliance for Regional Transition” – STARS EU – www.starseu.org and has been funded for a project of 14M EUR at the

alliance level comprising other eight European Universities as follows:

  • Polytechnic Institute of Braganca, Portugal – partner;
  • Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Germany – partner;

  • Polytechnic University of Krakow, Poland – partner
